More information
Earache and outer ear canal inflammation
If you have ear pain, itching, discharge or symptoms suggesting inflammation of the ear canal, we will examine the problem and recommend treatment. These symptoms may occur in adults, for example after swimming or with skin conditions affecting the ear canal.
Blocked ears and earwax
If you have a blocked ear, muffled hearing or discomfort caused by earwax, please call us to discuss what to do. Do not try to clean deep inside the ear canal with an instrument.
Nosebleeds and nose injuries
For nosebleeds, important information includes how heavy the bleeding is, whether it recurs, the nature of any injury and whether you take blood thinners. Heavy bleeding, bleeding that does not stop or bleeding associated with an injury may require emergency care.
Sore throat, colds and sinus symptoms
For a sore throat, painful swallowing, a persistent cold, a blocked nose or sinus pressure, a medical examination can help determine which treatment or further tests are appropriate.
Services not included in this care
The acute ear, nose and throat care described on this page does not include hearing tests or care for children under 16. Call us and we can help clarify which type of care may be appropriate.
How it works
01
Call us
Briefly describe your symptoms, when they started, and whether you have a fever, bleeding, difficulty swallowing or difficulty breathing.
02
Arrange your visit
We will help you determine whether a clinic examination or more urgent specialist care is appropriate.
03
Examination and advice
The doctor will assess your condition, recommend the next steps and refer you for further care if needed.
What to do before your visit
If you have a nosebleed, sit leaning forward and gently pinch the soft part of your nose for several minutes. Do not tilt your head back. If you have earache or a blocked ear, do not insert anything deep into the ear canal or try to remove a foreign object.
Bring a list of your regular medications and any previous medical reports. Let us know if you take blood thinners or have a known bleeding disorder.
If you have heavy bleeding that does not stop, difficulty breathing, a choking sensation, a rapidly worsening overall condition or a significant facial injury, do not wait: call 112 or seek emergency care.
Choosing the right level of urgent care
For ear, nose and throat symptoms, it is important to determine whether an examination at the clinic is sufficient or whether hospital ENT emergency care, urgent laboratory tests, imaging or specialist care is needed.
Assessment
We assess how urgent your symptoms are and which care pathway is appropriate.
Clear guidance
We explain what to watch for at home and when to seek help again.
Referral when needed
If hospital ENT emergency care or another specialist service is needed, we will make this clear.
When to seek emergency care instead
If you have a choking sensation, difficulty breathing, rapidly worsening difficulty swallowing, a significant head or facial injury, heavy bleeding that does not stop, weakness on one side of the body, speech difficulties or feel seriously unwell, call 112 immediately or seek emergency care. This service does not include hearing tests or care for children under 16.
Frequently asked questions
Will I be seen by an ENT specialist?
At our clinic, patients with ear, nose and throat symptoms are seen by emergency physicians who have extensive experience in treating these types of complaints — not by ENT specialists. This service focuses primarily on assessing acute conditions and determining the necessary next steps. If an ENT specialist examination, ongoing care or hospital intervention is required, we will refer you accordingly.
Do you see children or provide hearing tests?
The acute care described on this page does not include care for children under 16 or hearing tests. Please call us so we can help clarify which type of care may be appropriate for your symptoms.
What should I do if my ear feels blocked or earwax is causing discomfort?
If your ear feels blocked, your hearing is muffled or earwax is causing discomfort, please call before coming to the clinic. Do not insert tools deep into the ear canal to clean it or try to remove a foreign object yourself. The doctor will examine you and explain the appropriate next steps.
What should I tell you when calling about a nosebleed?
Tell us when the bleeding started, how heavy it is, whether it has happened repeatedly, and whether you have injured your nose, face or head. Let us know if you take blood thinners or have a known bleeding disorder. Heavy bleeding that does not stop or a significant injury requires emergency care rather than waiting for a clinic appointment. Call 112 in a life-threatening emergency.
Which symptoms should not wait for a clinic appointment?
A choking sensation, difficulty breathing, rapidly worsening difficulty swallowing, a significant head or facial injury, or heavy bleeding that does not stop may require immediate emergency care. Call 112 if you have weakness on one side of your body, speech difficulties or other life-threatening symptoms. Do not wait for a scheduled clinic appointment.
How should I prepare for my visit?
Call the clinic before you leave. Briefly describe your symptoms, when they started, and whether you have a fever, bleeding, difficulty swallowing or difficulty breathing. Bring a list of your regular medications and any previous medical reports. Tell us if you take blood thinners or have a known bleeding disorder.
