Medical assessment and advice
Budapest, Óbuda
What eye complaints can we help with?
For acute, uncomfortable or worsening eye symptoms, we first discuss by phone whether your complaint can be seen at our clinic and when it is best to arrive.
Foreign-body sensation
A gritty, scratchy or stinging feeling, such as dust or an eyelash in the eye.
Discharge and watering
Sticky discharge, watery eyes, eyelids stuck together in the morning or suspected infection.
Swollen eyelid
Redness or swelling of the eyelid, stye-like symptoms or pain around the eye.
Minor injury around the eye
Superficial injury or symptoms after a minor bump near the eye, after phone triage.
Details to know
Red, irritated or inflamed eye
For sudden redness, burning, watering or irritation, we examine the condition of the eye and discuss what treatment or further examination may be needed.
Foreign-body sensation and sharp pain
If it feels as if something has got into your eye, do not rub it. We discuss by phone whether it can be examined safely at our clinic or whether emergency eye care is needed.
Discharge, watering or suspected infection
For sticky discharge, eyelids stuck together in the morning, heavy watering or suspected infection, a medical examination helps clarify the next steps. If possible, do not wear contact lenses until the examination.
Swollen eyelid or stye-like symptoms
For eyelid swelling, a painful lump or redness around the eye, we assess the severity of the condition and give treatment advice.
When another level of care is needed
For sudden vision loss, severe eye pain, chemical injury, penetrating injury, significant trauma or neurological symptoms, do not wait for a clinic appointment: call 112 or go to emergency eye care.
How it works
01
Call us
Briefly describe the symptom, when it started and whether your vision is affected.
02
We agree the next step
We help decide whether a clinic visit or more urgent eye-care service is appropriate.
03
You are examined and advised
The doctor assesses your condition, gives advice and refers you on if needed.
What should you do before coming in?
Do not rub your eye. If you wear contact lenses, remove them only if this is easy and painless. Do not try to remove an embedded foreign body yourself.
If a chemical gets into the eye, start rinsing immediately with plenty of lukewarm water and seek urgent help. Please bring any eye drops, medication, contact lenses or glasses you use.
For chemical, penetrating or significant traumatic eye injuries, or sudden vision loss, do not wait: call 112 or go to emergency eye care.
A safe decision, quickly
With eye complaints, it is especially important to decide whether a clinic examination is enough or whether immediate emergency eye care is needed. We help with this by phone and during the examination.
Assessment
We assess how urgent the problem is and what type of care is appropriate.
Clear next steps
We explain what to watch for at home and when to seek help again.
Referral if needed
If specialist or emergency eye-care facilities are required, we will tell you clearly.
When should you not come to us first?
If you have sudden loss of vision, severe or rapidly worsening eye pain, chemical or penetrating eye injury, significant head injury, double vision, speech difficulty, one-sided weakness or poor general condition, call 112 immediately or go to emergency care.
Frequently asked questions
Will I be seen by an ophthalmologist?
At our clinic, your symptoms are assessed by emergency physicians with extensive experience in treating eye complaints, rather than by an ophthalmologist. The service focuses on assessing your acute condition and determining the next steps. If you need a specialist eye examination, ongoing care or a hospital procedure, we will direct you to the appropriate service.
Which eye symptoms need immediate care?
Sudden loss of vision or a change in vision, severe eye pain, marked sensitivity to light, a chemical injury or an injury that pierces the eye require immediate emergency eye care. Do not wait for an appointment at the clinic. Call 112 if you also have difficulty speaking, weakness on one side of the body, loss of consciousness or other life-threatening symptoms.
Can I wear contact lenses if my eye is red or painful?
Do not wear contact lenses while you have eye symptoms. Remove them if this is easy to do; if you cannot, do not force them out and seek medical help. A red eye in a contact lens wearer needs prompt assessment, especially if there is pain, sensitivity to light or a change in vision. Only start wearing lenses again once the problem has resolved and in line with your doctor’s advice.
Does every red or sticky eye need antibiotic eye drops?
No. Infection, allergy or irritation can cause these symptoms, and antibiotics do not help in every case. The doctor will decide on the appropriate treatment after examining you. Do not start using leftover eye drops or drops prescribed for someone else on your own; tell the doctor what you have already used.
What should I do if I feel something in my eye?
Do not rub your eye or try to remove an object that is embedded in it. For ordinary dust or a small loose particle, you can gently rinse the eye with clean water. If the symptoms persist, you need an examination. If a particle entered your eye at high speed, for example while drilling or grinding, or you have a penetrating injury, severe pain or a change in vision, seek emergency eye care immediately.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring your glasses, the eye drops you use or their names, a list of your medicines and any previous eye examination reports. Tell the doctor if you wear contact lenses, have had an injury or have got a chemical in your eye. Explain when the symptoms started, whether one or both eyes are affected, and whether your vision has changed. Do not drive if your vision is affected.
Medical consultation
The consultation fee is 33,000 HUF. If any additional treatment is needed, we will explain the expected cost in advance.
